Profile

Tim Chaney and Mark Opzoomer founded Zattika in 2009. The web gaming portal has just raised $5.5m from Notion Capital, the early-stage tech investor run by British entrepreneur Jos White. This is the latest in a string of deals for Notion, which is becoming an active player in this sector.

Zattika's founders, says TechCrunch, are two former Virgin games executives and the firm has increased its average monthly unique users by 76 per cent, exceeding 1 million unique users in June, 2010. It also boasts a total of over 77 million “recorded game plays” across its entire games portfolio.

Here's CEO Chaney's biog: "Tim has been headlining interactive gaming for the best part of three decades having played a part in the launch of the Commodore Vic20, C64 and Amiga machines, building the No. 1 software 'house' in the 80's (U.S.Gold), the biggest software publisher in Europe in the '90's (Virgin Interactive Entertainment) and the No. 1 independent distributor in Spain over recent years (Virgin Play).

"He and his teams have amassed over 40 Gallup/Chart-track UK number ones.

"In his spare time he collects Dylan memorabilia, rare vinyl and occasionally graces a tennis court or golf course. His first book 'Luton Boy' and first comedy sitcom set in Madrid 'Teddy Bingo' will release in 2010. Allegedly. According to the agents!"

Opzoomer's biog:

"Mark has had over 20 years of corporate operating and deal-making experience. He was recently both a non-executive director and interim ceo of Rambler Media Limited, one of Russia's leading internet groups through March 2005 to February 2009. Mark was the Managing Director and Regional Vice- President of Yahoo! Europe from July 2001 to December 2003, where he successfully restored profitability and growth by focusing on specific product lines.

"Since 2003, Mark has been a private consultant and non-executive director on the Boards of several companies including Rambler Media Limited, Blinkx plc, Newbay Software Limited, WebReservations International Limited, Entertainment One Limited, MIVA Inc., and Autonomy Corporation plc and founded Bond Capital Partners Limited.

"Prior to joining Yahoo! Europe, Mark was Deputy Chief Executive of Hodder Headline plc, and previously Commercial and Finance Director of Sega Europe Ltd and Commercial Director of Virgin Communications Ltd."
