A bigger staff means greater growth. But what happens if you can’t find anyone to hire, let alone the right person?
It’s a common problem (particularly when you’re looking for accountants for the finance team) and in Harrogate, Broker Network Group is working hard to find the solution.
FD Julie Hale, who recently won best finance director of a plc at the Yorkshire FD of the Year Awards 2007, says the group is trying lots of different ways to increase its employee headcount.
“We recently began a career start programme for graduates. We are developing relationships with recruitment consultants. We are also improving our brand image.”
Broker Network Group has also used external consultants to take a long, hard look at the business. “Spending money on the brand was not a priority when the business stated in 1994,” she says.
The brand programme was launched in May, so it’s too early to say whether it’s worked but Hale is enjoying the process. “It’s quite exciting. It’s not something that most accountants do.”
