Employing over 600 staff, including 70 pharmacists, Magir is the biggest indigenous pharmacy group in Northern Ireland.
Founder Michael Guerin started with one pharmacy in 1988, and continued to grow by acquisition. In 2002, the Group was brought under the Medicare brand, by that time having over 13 pharmacies. The head office and distribution centre is in Belfast, and the group can now boast 54 high volume retail pharmacies across Northern Ireland.
Times have not always been easy. The company’s first two pharmacies were located in central Belfast, and during the troubles, were damaged almost 20 times. Turnover last year was £89.9m while profits sat at £8.59m.
