John Timpson launches his new book

by Stuart Rock - Friday, 12th September 2008 - (1) comment - Business comment

John Timpson, cobbler, entrepreneur and columnist in Real Business, released his new book yesterday at the IoD

An excellent book launch party in the Waterloo Room at the Institute of Directors (IoD): John Timpson's new book, How to ride a giraffe, was unveiled.

Naturally, John had much explaining to do about the title. Apparently, it stems from a journalist asking Rod Umpleby - a plain-speaking Yorkshireman who was a long-standing member of the Timpson team - about the working life at the shoe repair chain.

"I think of the Timpson business as a giraffe," he told the journalist (no PR minders at Timpson). "It has evolved and been shaped by events - no-one could have possibly planned to produce a business like this, but it works."

We are the publishers of How to ride a giraffe, so you can buy the book from us - for only £12.99 (+ VAT, post + packaging).
