The concept for what would eventually become furniture enterprise JB Global was created by Jason Banister in 2002 and a year later he started selling on eBay under the name Container Clearance Company.

After two years of operating, the company was crowned as the largest retailer by turnover on eBay UK.

That title allowed Bannister to expand and set up three sites – OFL Home, The Online Furniture Shop and flagship brand Oak Furniture Land. The latter boasts more than 50 locations across the UK in places including Edinburgh, Bolton, Cambridge, Poole, Enfield, Nottingham and Cardiff.

Indeed, Oak Furniture Land now employs more than 650 people who support customers with design, manufacture, delivery and aftercare.

Elsewhere JB Direct, which launched in December 2008, was developed to bring delivery and logistics in-house and it allowed the firm to avoid intermediaries and make savings. In turn the decreased expenditure meant the savings could be transferred to the consumers, ultimately providing the firm with additional growth opportunities and brand loyalty.

“Our efficient delivery fleet allows our retail companies to deliver 95 per cent of all orders in-house using our logistics company which enables all customers to be contacted prior to delivery to agree a mutually convenient date and timeslot for delivery for our customers’ maximum convenience,” the company detailed.

“We are also able through this service to offer a 2-man delivery on every order handled internally which includes taking the furniture to the room of choice – yet another valuable selling point for our retail businesses. Currently our delivery network completes over 2500 orders every single week.”

Boasting a 77.75 CAGR, the company’s latest turnover figures hit £145.54 million, which secured the 7th slot for another year.
