“I’ve had to re-engineer the business a few times and I'll continue to do that. I’m always looking for continuous improvement," he says. "I like to tweak the company as often as possible; most successful businesses tend to revise.”
Yussuf started Mr Clutch almost 30 years ago. These days, the vehicle service chain has more than 40 auto centres across the UK. Mr Clutch employs more than 300 staff and has an annual turnover of £18m.
Yussuf believes companies have to plan for change. “We try to plan a few years ahead by piloting things first, and we make sure we pick the right people to be involved in the pilots. It’s a slow process, but once you’ve managed it, eventually employees embrace it and they’re not so frightened of change the next time."
