Civil war at News Corp

World-wide media empire News Corp was thought to be heading into a state of civil war today after the son-in-law of founder Rupert Murdoch said the family was “sickened” by the output of Fox News, one of its biggest brands.

Matthew Freud, himself a successful entrepreneur and founder of Freud Communications, one of Britain’s biggest PR companies, made the shock statement in an interview with the New York Times.

The attack focuses on channel chief Roger Ailes, the former aid to Richard Nixon who founded Fox News in answer to the perceived liberal bias of the traditional news media.

He told the paper, "I am by no means alone within the family or the company in being ashamed and sickened by Roger Ailes’s horrendous and sustained disregard of the journalistic standards that News Corporation, its founder and every other global media business aspires to."

This is a feud that could run and run. When it comes to families you don’t want to get on the wrong side of in business, the Murdochs are right up there. Are Ailes’ days finally numbered?
