Furniture entrepreneur shares her pain

She feels "fat as a proverbial pig". She's craving cigarettes. And her employees have sunk into sloth and apathy. Our new diarist Jan Cavelle, founder of the eponymous furniture manufacturer, gives us a glimpse into her daily grind.

Cavelle set up her business “completely by accident”: “It was just a way of making a living," she says. "I knew a bit about furniture and I had some telesales experience, so I thought it would be a bright idea to put the two together while at home looking after my children.”

Today, her Suffolk-based employs over 30 staff.

Each day, she'll be writing exclusively for Real Business on how she's battling through the recession, with her views on redundancies, restructuring and her attempts to give her downcast employees a kick up the derrière.
