Chile President Pinera to talk to UK businesses
Talk about timing. Invitation this morning to hear from Chile President Pinera.
If only companies could be as nimble as the Chilean government: at 12.26 today, just hours after the final miner, Luis Urzua, emerged into Camp Hope in the Atacama desert, Real Business received its invitation to hear from Chile President HE Sebastián Piñera, and the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and Development, Juan Andrés Fontaine later this month.
The invitation came from an organisation called ProChile London, which is the Trade and Investment Commission of Chile. On the day that Britain lights its bonfire of the quangos, this one deserves much credit for milking the moment.
Who could fail to attend such an occasion? As ProChlle says: "in the last weeks (and especially in the last days), Chile has been on the focus of international media. Therefore, this will be an unmissable opportunity to have a better perspective about our country and also to have the chance to ask questions to President Sebastián Piñera."
Interesting to wonder: would Britain be as defiantly proud of such a moment?
