Boris Johnson joins line-up for CBI Business Summit

Boris Johnson joins line-up for CBI Business Summit

Boris Johnson, newly elected Mayor of London, will address the CBI Business Summit next month about opportunities for entrepreneurs at the 2012 Olympics. It will be his first major speech to businesses about London 2012.

This timely event follows hot on the heels of the Entrepreneurs’ Summit debate on the topic. The message from the audience was that the bureaucracy and paperwork involved in providing products or services for the Olympics was crippling.

Johnson and fellow speaker James Caan (who’s on the hunt for his “Golden Entrepreneur”) are doubtless trying to dispel the scepticism of UK businesses and gee up enthusiasm for the event.

To prove that it can be done, the CBI Business Summit will showcase UK businesses that have successfully participated in previous Olympic games.

"The London 2012 Games are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," says Richard Lambert, director-general, CBI. "The Games could bring more than £10bn of contracts to UK businesses. And come 2012, the eyes of the world will be on London. In this global economy, that represents a great opportunity. The 2008 CBI Business Summit brings together all the central players in the London 2012 project for a practical and unmissable day."

Boris Johnson joins an impressive line-up bringing together all the central players in the London 2012 project.

Other speakers include:
Lord Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG)
David Higgins, chief executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA)
Richard Lambert, director-general of the CBI
Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, Minister for the Olympics
Sir Alan Collins, Consul General New York and UKT&I Ambassador for London 2012

The CBI Business Summit takes place on Wednesday, June 11, at the London Marriott, Grosvenor Square.
