Stelios awards €10,000 to green entrepreneur
Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder of easyJet, has awarded €10,000 to a London-based green entrepreneur.
Sir Stelios has announced the winner of his Stelios Award for Young Clean-tech Entrepreneur 2011: Jonathan Halls and the team at Solar Press.
Solar Press is a young London-based company offering low-cost, light-weight, flexible solar panels targeted at developing markets.
As the winner of the Stelios Award for Young Clean-tech Entrepreneur, Jonathan Hall received a €10,000 grant, recognising his innovation, entrepreneurial passion and business acumen.
“I feel very proud to be associated with this award," says Stelios. "Climate change – and its effects – is one of the world’s most pressing problems.
"I think entrepreneurs will have a big role to play in finding the solutions that will enable all of us to reduce our impact on the environment. I wish Solar Press the best success!”
The second annual Stelios Award for Young Clean-tech Entrepreneur was presented in Monaco over the weekend at the Clean Equity Monaco 2011 conference. Six "next wave" companies – all pre-revenue clean-tech companies seeking initial funding – presented their case and answered grueling questions from Stelios and the audience.
