Corporate manslaughter case offers lessons for other SMEs

Last week Sterecyle, a waste processing business in Rotherham, became the eighth company to be convicted of corporate manslaughter under law that was passed in 2008 (The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act). The new law was intended to make it easier to prosecute companies for the offence of corporate manslaughter by removing the requirement to identify the negligence of an individual at a senior level within the company.
