Telling the truth about SME life today

Sitec Group is proof that family firms are alive and well in the modern world. Appearing in our Hot 100 for the second year in a row, Sitec is 99 per cent owned by the Medlock Family – primarily father Leonard and his son David. Medlock senior started the engineering group nearly 60 years ago and he has seen it grow to achieve turnover of £84m in 2008 – up from just £13m in 2005. Sitec is now of the largest independently owned engineering services firms in the world, with 12 offices in the UK, and presence in Bangalore, Toronto, Seville, Toulouse, San Diego and Munich, Hamburg and Berlin in Germany, where they have a partnership with local firm Garner CAD Technik GmBh. Sitec is currently recruiting qualified design and stress engineers from India to work in the aerospace sector – a sign of what Sitec calls its “global footprint”. The socially conscious Medlock senior formed the Medlock Charitable Trust, which makes donations to local hospitals and charities in the Bristol area, as well as to universities, schools and colleges.
