The Wind Prospect Group is one of the UK’s oldest renewable energy companies. Starting out 20 years ago, with just a handful of people in the UK, the group has grown to employ 160 staff, with operations in the US, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, France, China and Hong Kong. In 1992, the UK’s second commercial wind farm was built, and so began Wind Prospect Group’s experience. Today, taking in its overseas activities, Wind Prospect has achieved planning consent for 583 wind turbines, built almost 100 wind farms and advised on over 11GW of renewable energy projects. It has also moved into marine renewable energy, on-site generation for industrial clients and large-scale solar power. These diverse activities have seen sales quadruple from £2m in 2005 to £8.3m in 2008, with pre-tax profits of £1.5m. According to office manager Helen Leaver, the company “provides a challenging yet supportive working environment, which is reflected in our very low staff turnover”.
