Co-founded in 1994 by Conal and George Daniel, this Warrington-based contractor has grown steadily – both organically and through acquisition – and now employs over 1,000 people. It offers an end-to-end service, from design through to construction and asset management of any pipeline, utility or civil works, both on land and offshore. Clients include major utility companies but also the Welsh Assembly and other councils for work, such as highway maintenance and drainage works. The Assembly might have been impressed by the fact that 40 per cent of Daniel’s local workforce are Welsh speakers. The company acquired Land and Marine Engineering in 2002 and McTay Engineering Limited in 2006. Turnover rose from £63m to £243m in four years, with profit for last year at £2.8m.
