A new SuperRooms offering from Travelodge has been designed to provide guests travelling on business with a premium economy experience in what marks a £5m investment.
When it comes to airlines, options include economy, premium economy, business class and first class, but Travelodge plans to bring a premium economy touch to the UK hotel sector with SuperRooms.
The budget hotel chain claims the move is a first for its market, with SuperRooms to make stays more comfortable for business travellers and those on leisure that want a touch more relaxation.
Travelodge chose to use a homely design to offer an accommodating, calming environment for guests, with light blues and beiges for tranquility, combined with blackout curtains.
SuperRooms are available at Travelodge hotels across London, including Waterloo, Farringdon, Euston and City Road. More will arrive throughout the year, as the company plans to invest £5m into opening 1,000 SuperRooms, with other locations to include Bath and airports at Heathrow and Gatwick.
“At Travelodge, we are all about bringing great value and choice to the budget traveller,” said Peter Gowers, Travelodge chief executive.
“More and more business travellers are opting for a budget hotel and last year we generated more sales from business customers than those on holiday. Our new ‘SuperRoom’ adds an extra choice for customers who are spending more time working in the room, are staying longer or who just value that little bit more comfort.”
SuperRooms can be booked on the Travelodge website, with pricing around £10-20 a night more than usual rooms.
The firm made the decision to launch based on customer research, teaming luxury travel design agency Honour, which has collaborated with British Airways and Etihad Airlines on first class designs.
Suzy Chiazzari, colour therapist & holistic interior designer, said: “From the first moment you step into the SuperRoom you sense a feeling of lightness and calm. This is created by the mood-enhancing qualities of the colours used in the room, which includes: calming blue, warm beige and tranquil taupe.
“The blue shade is reminiscent of the night sky and transports you into a quiet space where you can relax and unwind. Whilst the beige and tranquil colours are earthy grounding tones which create an inviting space that cocoons you while you recharge your batteries, leaving your refreshed and invigorated the next day.”
SuperRoom amenities include Lavazza A Modo Mio coffee machine, Hansgrohe Raindance three-jet adjustable shower, multiple power and USB charging points, mood lighting, armchair, large desk swivel chair, king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed and more.
