John Buckman founded Jark Recruitment with Preston Andrews in 1996. Today, the firm, which specialises in placing staff in the industrial, construction and healthcare sectors, is ranked among the top 40 agencies in the UK, with a presence in more than 40 locations in the UK and Europe. Last year saw the Dereham-based company’s turnover jump from £63m to £105m through the acquisition of another big industry player, Aptus. Buckman says: “This acquisition means our current five-year plan of achieving £100m turnover has been out-performed two years ahead of schedule. This moves Jark into a new league, bringing critical mass in other sectors, including public sector and small specialist fields where we currently have no representation.” But even before Aptus joined the fold, Jark saw steady growth – up 35 per cent year-on-year since 2005. Buckman plans to fuel further growth with additional acquisitions as well as organic growth.
