A BaseKit report has recently unveiled that 91 per cent of small business’ websites are not accessible via mobile.
The report, which polled small to medium-sized businesses on a range of technology issues such as the functionality of their website, looks at how firms are embracing technology and the internet to help market their business.
Remarkably, of the 510 SMEs surveyed, only nine per cent said their websites were optimised for mobile viewing. Furthermore, only two thirds were able to update their own site, while only half used some form of social media to promote their business.
Hosting providers have recently reported an increase in demand from SMEs for a responsive website as 45 per cent of users are accessing the web via a mobile device.
Juan Lobato, CEO of BaseKit, states: “In this day and age, a website that can only be accessed via PC is positively prehistoric. Consumers are now accessing websites on-the-go, especially on the high street, and businesses with no mobile offering are simply missing out.
“Our research showed that over 50 per cent of new traffic now comes via mobile, and so it is essential that SME websites should be designed with mobile in mind.”
