Had a quick search online to see what companies still do this sort of work (several, to our delight) but, by chance, I also stumbled across several job ads for sprayers. Having always drawn a blank in finding any agency supplying sprayers, I decided to give the company a slightly sceptical ring and am amazed – but thrilled – to be proved entirely wrong. There, sitting pretty much on our door step, is a helpful lady who talks to me about spraying technicalities and assures me she has several sprayers on her books.
It’s a blindingly positive start to the day. Sprayers’ CVs come flying in – and all candidates are available to start immediately. I know we haven’t seen them yet, let alone judged their work, but this is a major breakthrough on several counts. It opens up the real possibility of having experienced sprayers on tap to suit our work load, which would be perfect financially as well as removing the feeling we are being held to ransom by our existing ones.
Having been held back by this department for about eight months now, there is suddenly a light at the end of the tunnel. On the downside, I had given the team express instructions to finish an order early so that nothing could possibly go wrong. Yes, it was done early – but it was faulty. Heads will roll on this one.
