AWS Ecoplastics secures £6m in funding

The company is receiving the follow-on funding from E-Synergy, through its Sustainable Technology Fund, and Robeco. The latter provided the bulk of the investment, with a £5m commitment, while E-Synergy provided £1m in financing.

Newcastle-based AWS was founded in 2000 by Jonathan Short and operates the largest bottle processing plant in the UK.

The expansion of its plant will also allow the business to commence production of high-quality food-grade pellets, allowing domestic drinks companies to increase the proportion of recycled material in bottles.
