Best gadgets of 2012: Cel-Fi RS2 3G signal booster

1 Mins

Having 3G is a must for any business these days, but too many rural firms still suffer from poor mobile coverage.

Nextivity’s Cel-Fi RS2 helps tackle the problem, boosting your 3G signal for a 13,000 sq ft area.

It comes with two devices: one (smaller) device which sits on a window sill where you have a decent 3G signal; and the “coverage” unit, which you plug in at the point in your office where you need to boost your signal. There aren’t any messy connections to hook the two systems together – they communicate wirelessly.

The system, by all accounts, works well and only takes five minutes to install. It does what it says on the tin: you get decent 3G coverage, allowing you to browse the web on your phone, download apps, browse sites, call, etc.

For now, Cel-Fi works with Orange/T-Mobile and O2 phones but the real obstacle is its price: £449.99 – a substantial amount. But, with countless SMEs suffering from awful mobile phone signal, some will no doubt just bite the bullet and invest in the device.
