The ‘Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census 2014‘, released yesterday, found that Europe’s 775 billionaires are now worth $2.37tn.
Asia’s billionaires are quickly catching up though, showing a growth in wealth of 18.7 per cent in the last year, the biggest of any region. Latin America and the Caribbean saw the largest growth of billionaire population, an increase of 37.8 per cent.
In terms of individual countries, the US retains the world’s biggest population of billionaires, with 571, followed by China (190) and the UK (130).
Globally billionaires saw their total wealth rise by 4.4 per cent this year, reaching an average of $3.1bn. 286, or 12.3 per cent, of the world’s billionaires are women.
