The company: Image Analysis
The boss: Dr Olga Kubassova
The road to the Future 50 was long and winding for Dr Olga Kubassova. Born in Ust-Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan, she showed early promise in maths and was packed off to the Republic Physics and Mathematics Boarding School in Almaty. From there, Kubassova progressed to St Petersburg State University where she took her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in maths and mechanics. She took a second master’s in computer science in Finland. And then a scholarship to Leeds University to complete a PhD, where her pioneering work on using computers to analyse MRI scans resulted in her founding Image Analysis.
Normally, a doctor stares at the results of an MRI scan. After a few hours of examining the data, doctors can get tired and make mistakes. Kubassova’s algorithms replace the doctor and cut analysis time by half, massively reducing the chances of wrongful diagnosis. Image Analysis” software is already being sold Europe-wide, and has been repeatedly proven to beat human analysis. Margins on sales are high: £128,000 on £300,000 turnover. But these are early figures, and Image Analysis is set to crack a worldwide market.
We see massive earning potential here.
