The company: Neul
The boss: James Collier
Sometimes you just have to look at the management team of a new venture to know it’s going to be big. And Neul’s five-man crew is the A-Team of tech. We were sold before we even looked at the product!
Four of the founders are former top brass from Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR), the chip design house that’s dazzled the mobile world over the past decade. Neul’s CEO is James Collier, a co-founder and former chief technical officer of CSR; the guy who designed their amazing chips. The fifth founder is Professor William Webb, former technical boss of Ofcom, and the world’s foremost expert on the mobile spectrum.
So, what on earth are these guys cooking?
Neul has created a mobile communications chip that can transmit further than 10km – the signal goes through walls and buildings. The killer is that Neul is not using mobile spectrum, which costs money. It’s using the white space in the TV spectrum, which is free. Neul has designed the chip, and will sell all the kit to make the whole system work.
Big? This could be galactic.
