The winner is…. BECAUSE!!!!
Founded by Sharon Richey in 2003, Because is an experiential marketing agency based in London, with clients such as Procter & Gamble, Sony, E.On and adidas.
The arrival of new HR director Polly Barnes in 2007 has proved to be galvanic for the company, resulting in a major boost to business performance.
Recruitment costs have been slashed and staff churn rate has been reduced to under ten per cent (in an industry where average length of service is 14 months). In-house training has yielded further savings and overall operating costs have been cut by three per cent. The Investors in People national standard was achieved in 2008 at the first attempt.
There’s a whole slew of initiatives, including “Me Days” (extra days off for exceptional achievement), a “Friday’s Fridge” in its café for an end-of-the-week wind-down, and a quarterly “employment happiness survey.”
You only need to look at the figures to see that all of this effort is working – sales were up 22 per cent last year.
BEcause HR director Polly Barnes is collecting the award… she jokes that everyone at home has been texting the team at the awards, asking whether they’ve won. “I’m going to text them now to let them know,” she quips.
