Bettercare Keys Group is the largest supplier of specialist child care services in the UK. It runs schools, homes and therapy centres for children with serious psychological conditions under license from social services. Some schools have as few as four pupils offering one-to-one tuition.
Chief executive Heather Laffin explains that the group has grown both organically and by acquisition. “We have acquired around 12 companies in the past four years,” she says. “Our strategy is to move into new geographical areas in the UK and into new niches.”
One new area is residential family homes, where families under scrutiny from social services can be observed. The Belfast-based firm ensures it works closely with the government to ensure it is delivering precisely what social services require – a formula which could keep it growing at a fair pace for many years yet.
