Construction and maintenance firm Blu-3 has won juicy contracts all over London, including creating Boris’ cycle superhighways, upgrading power lines, revamping public buildings such as Maidstone Library, building new school facilities such as gymnasiums and a whole bundle of work for the Olympics.
In fact there’s not much Blu-3 can’t do for you – from widening roads to digging sewage tunnels. How so energetic? Founder and boss Danny Chaney explains: “I lost my mum four years ago. I buried my head in work and carried on like that. I now have 300 employees who I feel responsible for, and if I take a moment off I feel guilty.”
Workaholism hasn’t clouded his judgement though: Blu-3 consistently posts profits of £1m plus on a turnover now at £23.4m. Chaney, 35 years old, remains ferociously ambitious: “In five years time we’ll be a £100m business, speaking conservatively.”
