In 1999, farmer Ian Mosey set up an animal feed mill to drive down the cost of fattening up his animals. So successful was the mill that Mosey started supplying other farmers in the area and today his market stretches across the North of England.
The business concentrates on creating good quality produce at competitive prices and has a high-tech custom built mill near York, which is the newest in the UK. It supplies feed for pigs, cattle, game, poultry, sheep and horses. It has a team of nutritionists who are responsible for tracking the latest innovations in animal diets.
The family-run business made an appearance in the Hot 100 in 2010, but since then has increased both its turnover and its position on the list; it was in at number 91 two years ago. Sales have flown up to £34m from £21m in the 2010 ranking, while gross profit has climbed to £2.6m.
