Established in 1982, Interport was created by H. Patel, who was already well-known for being the owner of successful chemist shop chain EM-ESS in Liverpool. The company imports, labels and distributes pharmaceutical products throughout Europe and the UK.

Patel sold EM-ESS in 1994 to concentrate on his wholesale business. The company supplies between 85 and 90 per cent of retail dispensing chemist outlets in the UK.
