McDermott is a company focussed on the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of offshore oil and gas projects.
The company was established in 1923 by a 24 year-old Ralph Thomas McDermott, due to the receipt of a contract to build 50 wooden drilling rigs. As his father had worked in the lumber and oilfield construction business for many years, he was made partner to the company.
In 2002, McDermott constructed the world’s largest and heaviest flare bridge, and in 2006 outdid themselves by launching the largest jacket ever constructed in China, at 698 feet high and 25,200 tons.
