How to prevent the stress explosion

This article was placed by Netbooster.

Stress has a habit of slowly creeping up on you, steadily seeping into every part of life like pesky Japanese Knotweed ? it gradually breaks down your health, your relationships and your career, before you?ve even had a chance to see it coming.

As an entrepreneur, you?ll know that there are many stress factors to everyday life; renewing your business insurance, keeping clients happy and juggling a million phone calls a day. It can all add up to one huge ball of tension that will eventually pop and shower those around you. To prevent the stress-explosion, here are some handy hints to help you to relax and rewind.

Do one thing at a time

This is the simplest and yet the most difficult of tasks to achieve. Simplicity is the key to a stress free life, so take one task on at a time instead of flicking from email, to report, to phone call? you get the picture. De-clutter your desk, stick your headphones in and concentrate on one thing at a time.

Look after your body

Being stressed has a great impact on both mental and physical health, so make sure you find the time to look after both with some love and affection. Do some yoga, go for a run, cycle home from work ? anything that gets your blood pumping will not only put you in good shape, but will allow a release for any tension built up during the day.

Getting a good night?s sleep is also paramount to relieving stress. It gives your mind time to recover from a day of checking any anxiety-inducing liability insurance claims, as well as rationalising your emotions so a more level-headed decision can be made in the morning.

We know you?re busy, really busy in fact, but making some time to sit in the pub with your friends will take some tension off your shoulders. As soon as you are in good company you are talking about things other than work ? your friends who just got engaged, the latest group scandal or some procrastination about travelling to far-off lands. Hanging out for an hour with a group of people who always make you laugh is not only good for the soul, but releases stress-busting hormones and stretches your core muscles.

Silence is golden

In the office, at home and on the commute, we are all surrounded by the constant whirring of gadgets and chattering of people ? a constant flow of communication from emails, TV and mobiles phones is pushed on us, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Step away from the technorati and don?t let yourself become reliant on gizmos ? take some time to sit in silence and to appreciate the finer things in life.

Better still, take a deliberate news blackout for a day or two. According to research, constantly hearing bad news is bad for our health, so resist the urge to pick up the Metro tomorrow morning and indulge in a thrilling fiction instead.

Set realistic goals

It?s a good feeling whenever we reach a goal we set for ourselves ? it gets the adrenaline pumping and puts a smile on our faces. With this in mind, always set yourself achievable milestones as setting yourself up for a fall can be demoralising and depressing. Think practically, but don?t be afraid to push yourself.
