Sales becoming an increasing worry. Have three factors against us: the quality of service and furniture we delivered during the last two months of 09 was not as high as I would have liked; a brand-new, severely under-trained sales team; and last but not least, the fact that everyone we speak to is flat as a pancake as well. With regard to the last, the snow and ice has to be a factor. No-one is going to feel exactly inspired about venturing out to see their designers and discuss new plans for their houses at the risk of life and limb, and indeed the designers themselves have been unable to reach their customers. Very difficult to tell what impact the three factors will have. The first two require the support and understanding of the staff – and indeed them recognising their responsibility and the affect of their poor performance. They absolutely have to do two things now: deliver the right quality of service and furniture; and support the sales staff in every way they can. In doing both, they’ll release me to concentrate on training and leading this absolutely vital part of the company.
