A panel of judges, led by Dragon entrepreneur Peter Jones, looked at Britain’s most innovative businesses that use technology successfully, and selected 20 winners to be photographed by Rankin (pictured). “The Essence of the Entrepreneur winners are bucking a trend, creating stand-out businesses, harnessing the developments of technology and thriving,” says head judge Peter Jones. The wide spread of sectors amid the winners illustrates just how alive the UK’s entrepreneurial spirit still is – for example, the winners include online greengrocer Fruit Of The Office, jelly sculptors Bompass & Parr, online chemist Chemist Direct, and a small knitting shop, Loop Knitting. Rankin’s iconic and playful portraits attempted – successfully – to capture the ‘essence’ and passion of each entrepreneur, despite the wide range of sectors each business works in. If you want to see the portraits, BT’s Essence of the Entrepreneur exhibition is taking place at gallery@oxo, in Oxo Tower on London’s South Bank between January 28 – February 28. It is open from 11am-6pm daily, with free admission. Related articles:It’s official: Entrepreneurs are the new rock starsGrowing Business Awards 2009: How it went downMeet the Woman of the Future
