BT’s Essence of the Entrepreneur exhibition opened last night at the OXO Tower, London, featuring Rankin’s portraits of some 20 entrepreneurs: from Warren Bennett, founder of A Suit That Fits, to Nick Newbury from Original Travel. The businesses were honoured for their pioneering use of technology, and special awards were given to the best female, male and young entrepreneurs. For the first time, this year, the judges also chose an overall winner from among the featured businesses. Real Business’ own Mike Welch took the gong! He was awarded a £20,000 grant from BT. Judges included Peter Jones and John Dunsmere from the BCC. Rankin (pictured) told BBC News on the night that the project was one of the most unusual and challenging he’s had to date. "They’re not used to being photographed," he said. "But they are extremely passionate about what they do. If you speak to the winner, Michael, he’s just amazing." The exhibition is open to the public, and runs till 1st March, 2009.
