Mamas & Papas keeps it in the family

“Amanda was the reason for starting Mamas & Papas and now 28 years later we have created a designer collection together,” Scacchetti says. “Family is one of life’s greatest miracles and to be able to work together on a collection is very special to me.” Two years ago, Scacchetti’s youngest daughter, Olivia, also joined the firm and is now launching her second pushchair range.

The husband-and-wife team realised there was a gap in the market when they created a stir amongst their friends with the “fashionable pushchair that was practical and comfortable” that they bought back from their native Italy for Amanda.

Scacchetti adds: “I decided that I would use my knowledge and talent to open a store and import products from Italy. It is when the demand for those imports grew that David joined me in the business to help with the enquiries and orders from other baby goods stores in the UK.

"We then employed some sales reps and after a year of dealing with invoices and deliveries over the weekend, we took the risk to rent a warehouse and that is when the Mamas & Papas brand was truly born.”

Mamas & Papas now employs more than 1,100 staff around the world with 100 in-house designers based at its Yorkshire head office.
