Telling the truth about SME life today

Marching forwards, shoulder to shoulder

Health report on my lovely accounts guy brings little joy. Establishes that he definitely won’t be back this week and recommends a part-time role. From there, we’ll see how it goes as no-one seems clear how he’ll cope with being back.

Hugely upsetting on a personal basis as just the loveliest man but, coupled with that, also extremely worrying business wise. Cannot keep moonlighting at accounts forever.  No choice though – one of those suck-it-and-see situations, which I am extremely bad at. Second-in-charge earns several gold stars by keeping himself together while hauling me back from brink of gloom and doom. Also rightly identifies that much of gloom springs from the lack of control over various situations and proposes that we spend a morning gutting my outer office (thereby putting life back in order) and checking all systems, which have been gradually corrupted by succession of staff.

He also promises to help me prepare presentation for line-managers session tomorrow, which am now landed with if we are to keep up impetus of training. Shrunk On Top confirmed that she needs to be in Sussex to sort her life out, so now have that to contend with as well. Second-in-charge assures me that we will get through it all, shoulder to shoulder.
