Name: Marcus Angell
Age: 40
Company: SilverDoor. We’re the largest serviced apartment agent in Europe.
Turnover: £21m
First job: A summer job aged 15 with quantity surveyors EC Harris.
Dream job: Master bricklayer. I have a fascination for mortar and brick design, which I studied carefully as part of my MSc in Building Heritage and Conservation.
Car: I have a small collection of treasured cars including a Ferrari, a very early Lancia Delta, a couple of early Land Rovers and an Austin A40 Sports.
Economy, business or first class: Business on long haul. Economy within Europe.
Most extravagant purchase: My family home.
Most played song on iPod: “This Charming Man” by The Smiths.
Best business book: I can’t stand business and self-help books. I believe in getting on with the job and bringing in actual results, not talking about it.
Worst business moment: Losing a very large client in 2005. It was such a low point at the time but taught me a valuable business lesson never to rely too heavily on one income stream.
Proudest business moment: Our company’s tenth birthday party in London. The venue was packed with very happy clients, suppliers and staff.
Business mentor: I admire many of the business moves and decisions that Jon Hunt (Foxtons founder) made.
Next big thing: Serviced apartments for corporate travel. Who wants the restrictions of staying in a hotel on a two-week business trip?
