The arvato UK outsourcing index found that the sector spend £130m on outsourcing in that period, and the total volume of deals increased by 50 per cent.
arvato, a provider of business process outsourcing, suggested that the increase was driven by broader growth in the manufacturing sector as a whole – British Chambers of Commerce figures found that 42 per cent of manfacturers reported an increase in domestic sales in Q2 this year.
Two thirds of the manufacturer outsourcing deals were first-time contracts.
Debra Maxwell, MD of arvato UK, said: “While not seen as a traditional market for business process and IT outsourcing, manufacturers under increasing growth pressure are turning to outsourcers to help support non-core functions, allowing them to focus on their expansion strategies and product innovation.”
