Former PE teacher Matt Delaney set up The Great Outdoor Gym Company in January 2007 with Georgie Tarrant, pioneering the idea of the “free outdoor gym” in the UK. “Our first customer was Strathclyde Police,” says Delaney. “We took what could only be described as a battleground for two rival gangs in a rough part of Glasgow and put a gym there. We didn’t know if it would be trashed, burned down or pulled down. But it is still being used today and crime in the local area has dropped by eight per cent.” Hear how Delaney is working alongside Adidas and is planning to make outdoor gyms as “commonplace as children’s playgrounds”.
