King admits that she never intended to launch the MOBO awards herself. Spotting a gap in the market, she tried to convince awards organisers to incorporate different genres into their music shows. When she was knocked back, she put her money where her mouth was and launched her own show. Today, the MOBOs are watched by more than 250 million people in 65 countries.
