What they do:
One to watch? Monitise has been grabbing headlines for a year or two now, but there’s every reason to believe the best is yet to come. Created by Alastair Lukies, Monitise has software which enables individuals to make payments using their mobile phone. Banks such as HSBC and RBS love the software, using it as the heart of their own mobile services. AIM listed since 2007, Monitise has a blue-chip set of investors including Visa, Norges Bank, Omega Advisors and Norwest Ventures.
Why is Monitise so popular? One key element is that its platform is truly versatile, working on any handset or network, and on any continent, too. Revenue target for this year is £70m, and gross margins of 70 per cent are set to be maintained. Our judges had no reservations in naming Monitise a “Highly Commended” pick. It is one of the UK’s most outstanding firms in any sector, and Lukies is on course to be one of the nation’s most admired entrepreneurs.
