According to The Publican, "more than 50" parties have expressed an interest in acquiring the brewer’s assets. The administration is being handled by PwC.
The Manchester Evening News has a slightly lower figure – 47 – and reckons that Marstons (the Warrington brewer that owns the Pitcher and Piano chain) is the current front runner.
The forums are buzzing, too, with one comment that pub giant Wetherspoon might want to enter the race, adding brewing to its pub empire.
