New role for Primark founder

The Times reports Ryan will become chairman of the group (now owned by Associated British Foods) with chief operating officer Paul Marchant taking over as CEO.

Ryan is quoted as saying: “I am extremely proud of all that Primark has achieved. As chairman, I am looking forward to working with Paul to ensure the ongoing success and future development of the business.”

Primark was borne in Dublin with the first British shops opening in 1973.
