Product launch: the tale of Martin Loofah King

I realise these two topics don’t normally go together. In fact, most politicians are anything but squeaky clean but, in my case, I wanted to make a new item called the “Martin Loofah King”. I imagined it to be a loofah mitt printed with a face on one side and the phrase “I have a clean” on the other.

The first step was to find someone who could make my special loofah mitt. Now, I don’t have the first clue about making loofah mitts, especially ones printed with a face. Thank goodness for the internet. I went onto Alibaba.com and sent a mailshot to dozens of factories in China. The brilliant thing about the Far East is the “can-do” attitude of its companies. Within 12 hours, I’d found a factory to make my Loofah.

The second step was to actually design the loofah and packaging so I visited a brilliant website called Crowdspring.com which displays your design brief to thousands of designers. Dozens of them work on your project – and you only pay for the design you end up using. Incredible! Once I had my design, I sent it off to the factory, then used my Facebook and Twitter network to get a recommendation for a good shipping company, and voila! my beautiful loofahs arrived at my flat a few weeks later!

While my example is about a novelty product, these principles apply to any realm of your business. Your Google homepage is the magical gateway that allows you make anything happen. So, don’t forget to thank your blessings (or Google Inc) for this powerful portal. Use it to bring something to life you’ve been thinking about for ages.
