Name: Rajesh AgrawalAge: 34 Company: Foreign exchange company RationalFX. Turnover: £258m and growing First job: Part-time data entry operator/tea boy at a small accounting firm in India. Dream job: A job that involves flying fighter jets (but without having to drop the bombs!) Car: Mercedes CLS 55 AMG Economy, business or first class: Mostly economy. Most extravagant purchase: Extravagance is relative. Years ago, I went on an expensive holiday when I was hardly earning anything – that felt very extravagant at the time. Most played song on iPod: I don’t have an iPod anymore but when I owned one, I was always playing Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World”. Best business book: What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School. Worst business moment: Until now, I haven’t lost my sleep over anything that happened in business. It’s a journey and I enjoy every moment of it. Proudest business moment: We take a lot of pride in our customer service. Once, not too long ago, one of our clients wanted a foreign currency draft to purchase a property in Italy. By the time we got the draft in our hands to courier it to our customer, it was the completion day for his property purchase. Although it was not our mistake, we did not want our customer to lose his property. We immediately booked our Customer Services Manager on the next flight to Rome and he personally hand-delivered the draft. It was a proud moment for all of us. Business mentor: Don’t have one, don’t want one. In my experience, going with your instincts is most satisfying. It may not be right all the time, but at least you will not regret it. Next big thing: Mobile payments, nanotechnology and renewable energy.
