Secret Millionaire Oberoi joins Girl Guides

In the global role, Oberoi will be responsible for fundraising, with the aim of raising £10m in three years through her contacts and network. She’s already started her chairmanship with a bang, bringing in $2m from the UPS Foundation, which has joined the fund as a global founding partner.

“It all started with the Secret Millionaire programme,” Oberoi explains. “I got involved with the women’s support centre Martha’s Voices, which empowers young women, and helped them develop their ‘Sisters with Voices’ programme nationwide.”

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has programmes in 145 countries across the board, and Oberoi hopes her support will help make a difference to girls’ life-long ambitions.

“Girls and young women deserve our support and investment,” she adds. “If we help them grow their self-esteem, develop their leadership skills and participate in their communities as equal citizens, we will witness a ripple effect that will benefit girls, their families and their nations.”

Joining Oberoi at the fund is HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark, who will act as patron of the fund, and Eduardo Martinez, director of the UPS Foundation, who will become chair of the corporate panel.

Oberoi founded Oberoi Consulting, her IT and business healthcare consultancy, in 2001, growing it into a multi-million pound business. As well as appearing on Secret Millionaire, Oberoi received a special commendation at Real Business’s Asian Women of Achievement Awards.
