A third of workers polled in a survey by Maritz business consultancy say they’re never thanked for their hard work, and many leave their job because they feel unappreciated.

But entrepreneur Lara Morgan, owner of Pacific Direct, a luxury-hotel toiletries company, doesn’t put a price on praise – she gave 30 members of staff a "thank you" in the form of an all-expenses-paid trip to the Caribbean.

And, she says, she reaps her own rewards: enthusiastic, loyal, hard-working employees.
