Writing in The Scotsman, billionaire philanthropist and shoe-entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter has encouraged Scotland to opt for a straightforward yes-no referendum vote on independence. Dismissing First Minister Alex Salmond’s single transferrable vote option as akin to the X-Factor, Hunter writes: "It is my firm belief that the Scottish people deserve the right to vote unequivocally on one key issue. Other issues follow, but there is only one vote: do you want Scotland to be Independent or not? Yes or no?" Reminding readers that Scotland was "a nation that delivered the Enlightenment, delivered Burns, delivered Carnegie, delivered innovation that changed the world," Hunter calls for an informed debate that would respect both Scotland’s past and future.
