Sky Sports sexism saga: as bad in the boardroom?

Maggie Berry, MD of Women in Technology…

“Traditional and sometimes sexist attitudes do still exist, especially in male-dominated sectors such as IT. We hear lots of stories from women in IT about comments they have been subjected to, inferring that they can’t do their job properly, including a woman who was told she was in the ‘wrong place’ while at an IT conference!

“I think a lot of the time there is a fine line between sexist insults and workplace banter, but women often ignore the comments as they don’t want to be seen to be complaining. However sexism is just as offensive as other types of discrimination and should be treated as such. Saying that, we are seeing improvements and attitudes are changing slowly, but it will take years to eradicate this type of behaviour for good.”
