Software genius defies the downturn

In a superb article in today’s edition of The Times, Lynch admits that his company, which has created “the world’s most advanced search engine for businesses”, is positively flying while those around him crash and burn: “Sorting out the mess generates work,” he says.

Market turmoil and the introduction of new regulations – which have forced firms to look for ways to organise and retrieve their data more effectively – have helped Autonomy to post record results. In the three months to March 31, revenues jumped by 23 per cent to £86m.

“In the downturn, that’s when you move forward and take the market share,” he says.
